Why We Homestead/Farm

Let's talk about how we are supposed to be the best mom's possible; show up to everything, entertain our kids plus friends, cook healthy dinners, pack healthy lunches, make snacks available, clean the house, do the laundry, make sure bills are paid on time with a Tiny Tim budget, make sure the kids don't know we are "middle class poor", and remain happy. Let's also not forget that cleaning the house consists of bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, wiping walls, windows, doors, baseboards (hope you have good knees), and cleaning up after dinner (counter, dishes, floors again if you have little ones, ect...ect) Whew...is that all?

After you've done all that... Now you get to work on your homestead/farm dreams.

We homestead/farm for a many reasons some of the top ones I hear:

1. Love for the animals and gardening. 2. Healthier for my family to eat what I grow 3. Reach self-sustainability. 4. Make a profit from my small homestead/farm 5. Quit my 9-5 job.

Some of us have a partner we are in this with, some of us are in this all the way alone, and then there is a third category of us with partners who are not into the homestead/farm life.

Like many of you I work at least 40 hours a week minimum at a 9-5 job. My schedule looks something like: come home let the dogs out, feed them dinner, let them out again (they have to be supervised), cook dinner, clean the house, start laundry, clean up after dinner, make lunches, and THEN I GET to go outside and do my homestead/farm work if I don't have to clean 3 puppy pees on the floor first (because I make decisions with my heart and not my head). I don't even have small children anymore and I'm ready to collapse daily. I know most of you mama's do have babies so add that layer and how are we doing this?

Barely, we are barely holding on day to day. And that is really okay and expected.

It's hard to remember this is our dream when the chickens get got , the goat babies have floppy kid, we passed out asleep one time and forgot to water the now dead and dehydrated garden we worked our butts off for. This lifestyle choice is exhausting, but it brings us true joy and satisfaction to be closer to the earth and the ability to take care of ourselves. We all have slightly different reasons for wanting a homestead/farm lifestyle, but we are all chasing het same basic goals.

The ultimate plan is to make money from our homestead/farms and quit the 9-5 life. In my writing I plan to discuss ways to make this happen and share my progress from start to finish. It's not easy, but it's worth it...those are not he same.

I really do hope to form a real connection with you all in this journey. Now let's get out there and feed those chickens.
